Blue Dreams encompasses nostalgia, daily life, and altered perceptions of beauty; featuring photographers Shiori Ota and Madeleine Ray, and painter Lina Suenaert.
Lina Suenaert is a painter from Belgium. In this exhibition Lina is showing a collection of acrylic paintings on paper and panel. The works on panel are based on a mixture of thoughts and fragments of memories from her daily life. The works on paper feature mushrooms that are inspired by a mushroom book that the artist had purchased from a second hand shop in Antwerp in 2021. Since purchasing the book, Lina has incorporated mushrooms as a routine in her artistic process- every day begins with painting a mushroom.
Madeleine Ray is a photographer from the US. In this exhibit, the artist is showing a selection of film photography ranging from 2021 that reflect her attempts at recontextualizing fashion photography as a means to use the creative space in a way that reflects emotion beyond the visual image. Madeleine incorporates experimental lighting and photographic techniques to form her own ethereal realm. The photographs are taken in Montreal, Quebec, and Tokyo, Japan.
Shiori Ota is a photographer from Japan. Her works are often romantic and softly colored. In these works, Shiori focuses on gradually beautifying pieces of her past like a dreamscape. The works were shot in Japan and abroad between 2018 and 2022. Shiori is also including notes from her journal that she had written down but never spoken aloud.
